Respect to human dignity as a baseline of the quality of social work with people with mental illness
PODLIPNÁ, Martina
The thesis deals with the quality of mental health care, key aspect of which is the respect of human dignity. The first part characterizes the ethical and legal basis of human dignity. Further, it summarizes the ethical principles regarding human dignity formulated in codes of ethics of the particular professions represented in a multidisciplinary team providing services to people with mental illness. The next part describes selected approaches to this target group - the medical and rehabilitation models of treatment in particular. After that, the recovery approach is introduced. Recovery from mental illness is approached as a psychological process, in which people strive for a dignified life. This process has four fluid stages - hope, empowerment, self-responsibility and having a meaningful role in life. The final part discusses the contributions and difficulties of recovery approach in connection with dignity of people with mental illness. This approach fulfils the fundamental requirement of quality of social work, which is the respect to human dignity. The potential difficulties do not come from the principles of the recovery approach, but from its possible wrong implementation.

Wolfová, Magdaléna ; Tušková, Eva (advisor) ; Dobiášová, Karolína (referee)
The subject of this diploma thesis is the involvement of users of psychiatric care in the process of planning and realization of psychiatric care reform at the macro level of policy making. The aim of the research is to describe and understand this involvement. In the research are describer possibilities of participation in the phases of involvement, its form, purpose, formal regulation of opportunities, expectations of respondents, perceived power and barriers in involvement. The data was collected during interviews with key actors and studies of relevant documents. The results relate to the theoretical concepts of coproduction, patient-oriented care, strategic and human rights documents (the Convention on the Human Rights of People with Disabilities). The element of power is described through the typology of Sherry Arnstein's participation ladder. Evidence of interviews indicates elements of tokenism and disadvantages. There is a low (one-person) representation of users in reform bodies, lack of time for discussion in consultative bodies, lack of information and lack of capacity (people, time, resources) for greater development of patient organizations. Respondents have identified barriers as the socio-economic situation, lack of capacity for macro-level involvement, mental health constraints or...

Evaluation of the quality of social service by the service user
Holubová, Alena ; Hradcová, Dana (advisor) ; Beránková, Anna (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the analysis and evaluation of existing methods of evaluating the quality of social services in a particular organization. As part of the analysis, a change in the process of improving quality will be proposed, primarily by proposing innovative methods of involving clients of sheltered housing in the evaluation of the service. The aim of this work is to propose methods of effective involvement of clients of sheltered housing in the evaluation of the quality of social services. These innovative methods with elements of social service user participation can serve as specific recommendations for creating a methodology for user participation in the process of evaluating and improving services. As part of the provision of social services, it is necessary to look for ways to work with the specific abilities and needs of clients and find innovative ways to involve service clients in the entire process of evaluation and measurement of quality. The basis of the innovative method is the empowerment, cooperation, and integration of clients into the entire process, which can then positively affect the direction of social services. Keywords: evaluation of the quality of social services, participation, empowerment, sheltered housing
Pentecostalism among Czech and Slovak Roma: The religiosity of Roma and the practices of inclusion of the Roma in the brotherhood in salvation. Autonomy and Conversions among Roma in Márov
Ripka, Štěpán ; Abu Ghosh, Yasar (advisor) ; Hrustič, Tomáš (referee) ; Ukah, Asonzeh (referee)
The aim of my thesis is to discuss the possible uses of the concept of autonomy in the study of conversions of Roma to Charismatic/Pentecostal Christianity. Focus on empowerment and social inclusion has been prevailing in the field, and critical reflection of questions of governance and oppression is lacking. I use the thesis by Patrick Williams (1987; 1991; 1993a), according to whom the French Gypsies who converted to Pentecostalism achieved autonomy or at least a sense of autonomy, which allowed them to downplay the role of structural factors and other people behind their actions. Through a case study from ethnographic fieldwork in a Romani Charismatic congregation in Western Bohemia I extend and refine the concept. The main theoretical innovations come from the contemporary moral philosophy, especially the theory of autonomy (of the oppressed) by Christman (2014) who defines autonomy as a reflexive affirmation of an assumed practical identity, a "life worth living". The story which missionaries in Márov, the place of my fieldwork, put forward, was that Roma converted from being pimps and drug dealers. The empirical realities and narratives about the change cast doubt on the easy account of radical change through the religion. Based on a detailed focus on conversion of one former drug addict I...
Forms of 'empowerment' in the frame of the anti-discrimination agenda in Education
Felcmanová, Alena ; Moree, Dana (advisor) ; Bittnerová, Dana (referee) ; Straková, Jana (referee)
Forms of 'empowerment' in the frame of the anti-discrimination agenda in Education 'Empowerment' - or a state of emancipation, in which an individual is able to achieve their goals, fulfill their needs, and reach their potential despite the structural limitations - should be the result of education. Forms of empowerment include: the capacity of involved actors to make changes, and their ability to influence conditions and structures, in which they move. In my dissertation, I inspect the empowerment found in actors in Education, families, the public sector, schools and other governmental organizations. I conducted my research in the context of the integration of the so-called 'inclusive education' and the associated changes in the system of the Czech elementary education, in the period of spring 2013 until the end of 2017. The method of qualitative research I chose was the stakeholder analysis and in-depth interviews. I analyzed the gathered data from the point of view of the actors' goals and agendas, their experience with discrimination, their involvement in the inclusive education, their cooperation with each other, and last but not least, from the point of view of the power(lessness) and empowerment of the actors themselves describe it. I then link the concept of empowerment with the concept of...
Sport for Development in Brazil: Gendered Perspective
Soares Moura, Eva ; Numerato, Dino (advisor) ; Hacker, Hanna (referee) ; Knoppers, Annelies (referee)
The sport for development and peace (SDP) sector has become a fast-evolving field which has received significant academic and public attention. Given the continued commitment to gender equality in the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, sport has been positioned as a vessel for women's empowerment, a term which continues to be the object of much academic debate and dispute. Drawing on feminist theories of development and empowerment, the purpose of this thesis is to explore (a) how young people engage in the development project and (b) to critically examine the potential of such programmes in advancing transformation in gender relations and in offering new opportunities for challenging gender stereotypes inside and outside of sport. This thesis draws upon eleven months of ethnographic research undertaken between 2017 and 2018 in two organizations in São Paulo, Brazil, which use sport-mainly football-to empower women and achieve broader societal objectives within low-income communities. I conducted participant observations and fifty semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders, managers, and educators as well as the participants of the projects and their parents. The findings of this research suggest that there is ambiguity regarding the role of sport-for-development (SFD) programmes in...
